Climate of Tokyo

Tokyo has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. As Tokyo is in the northern hemisphere, the seasons are in opposite times of the year compared to Australia. December, January and February are the winter months compared to Australia where that is our summer months. Summer months are hot and sticky. The hottest month of the year is August which has an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Winters are cold, and the coldest month is January with an average temperature of 6 degrees Celsius. The rainy season is from early June to late July. Snowfall is common in January and February. As Tokyo is a very populated city, a “heat island” has formed. Because of this “heat island” the average temperature of Tokyo has risen 3 degrees in the past 100 years.
