Tokyo - Megacity
SHEEPT factors of Tokyo
Economic
Tokyo is Japan’s leading industrial centre and has the third largest economy in the world. Japan has many companies in the top 100 biggest companies in the world including Honda motor, Toyota motor, Nissan motor, Panasonic, Sony, Nintendo, Hitachi and Toshiba. In 2013, Tokyo had 6.81 million tourists visit Tokyo so the tourism industry is substantial. Tokyo has an unemployment rate of 3.4% which is reasonably good compared to the rest of the world. Tokyo has the 24th best unemployment rate in the world.

Environmental
As Tokyo has a population of 37 million people, some environmental issues are bound to arise. Tokyo has high carbon dioxide emissions. A lot of the air is polluted by smoke from nearby factories. Tokyo also has problems with air pollution from auto mobiles, mainly diesel powered vehicles. All of this pollution of the air is contributing to global warming, and has caused an urban ‘heat island’ to form.
